PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
The Minister of Music is
responsible to the Senior Pastor for developing a comprehensive program of
church music. He will plan, promote, supervise and assist the church in its
basic forms of worship -- proclamation, education, and ministry. He will be a servant of the church in order
to equip and assist it in making disciples.
I.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Total
commitment to Jesus as Savior and Lord and to His Word as the sole authority
for faith and practice.
B. A
call to full-time Christian service.
C. Exemplary
moral character.
D. A
family sympathetic and supportive of the minister's work, if married.
E. A
Christ-centered love for people in general and the work of worshipping God
through music in particular.
F. Enthusiastic
and determined spirit and attitude.
G. A
bachelor's degree. Graduate seminary training in music is highly desirable but
not mandatory.
H. Sensitivity
to the musical needs, development, and expression of the congregation as a
whole.
II.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Organize
and maintain such adult, youth and university, and children's choirs and
ensembles as may best serve the church and its individual members and its
organization.
B. Organize
and maintain such special music ensembles (vocal and instrumental) as deemed
needful for a full program of music in the church.
C. Enlist
and supervise the leadership for all choirs and ensembles.
D. Plan
and carry-out a music program for all worship services to support all phases of
worship.
E. Assist
the Personnel Committee in the selection, employment, and supervision of music and
media personnel who receive compensation.
F. Determine
the needs of the Music and Media Ministries and submit an annual budget to the
Stewardship Committee.
G. Supervise
the use of all music and media equipment and supplies (instruments, computers, anthems,
etc.) and provide for such replacements and repairs as may be needed.
H. Prepare
a Music Ministry Report for the monthly deacon’s meeting.
I.
Prepare the order of worship in
coordination with other staff members.
J.
Provide such social activities for
the music groups as may be necessary to maintain a spirit of fellowship among
the groups.
K. Serve
as a resource person to those planning weddings and funerals in selecting
service music and musicians. Review all music to be used in all weddings
performed in our buildings.
L. Perform
such additional duties or responsibilities as the Senior Pastor may assign.
