Our neighbors in Texas and Florida are currently facing a great need and our nation is responding by asking how they can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Irma. You may be familiar with the Southern Baptist Convention's Disaster Relief Team. It exists to provide emergency assistance in times of need and to display the love of Christ in doing so. "Disaster Relief has been around for 50 years, providing all kinds of disaster relief including hot meals, clean water, child care, laundry, structure repairs, rebuilding and more." To learn more about disaster relief, check out this website.
In light of the recent disaster in Texas, the Arkansas Disaster Relief team is deploying laundry/ shower units and an extended feeding deployment. They expect to need 70 feeding volunteers a week, beginning after Labor Day. In order to serve with this team, all volunteers must be credentialed in feeding with a current Disaster Relief ID badge.
The State Convention is offering one more Disaster Relief Regional Training on October 14 in Little Rock from
8 am- 2 pm. If you would like to become a part of the Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief Team, this training is a first step in preparing you to serve our neighbors experiencing crisis.
You can register for the October 14 Regional Training by following this link.
If you are not able to volunteer at this time, the Disaster Relief Team is taking financial donations to help with their efforts in Texas. At this time, they are not taking material goods. You can give to the relief efforts by following this link.
Together we can make a difference in people's lives, sharing the help, healing and hope of Jesus Christ!
